Paddy's Language Pack
Origin: Paddy the bear was an exchange student who visited a group of students in their classroom. After weekend visits with the student and their families he was used as a resource or prop to help children give oral reports and recounts of events.
Paddy's Language Pack provides 20 colour photographs of Paddy engaging in a variety of activities familiar to young children, such as crossing at the school crossing, visiting the doctor and learning to write. There are also some less familiar experiences, such as feeding the cows on the farm and painting an old table. For each photo there are suggestions for language activities.
Uses: Apart from the specific language suggestions for each photograph, the PLP has a number of general applications
a focus on vocabulary around a pictured theme e.g. shopping.
a stimulus for oral or written stories
a resource for eliciting target phonemes
for developing fluency in connected discourse
for promoting the confidence to speak in front of others
Target Population: Paddy's Language Pack is suitable for children from ages 3 to 9 and some older children depending on developmental levels, needs and interest.
